Cost to birds is too high

Cost to birds is too high

Carmarthen Journal, Sep 9, 2009

MOST people are unaware of the devastation caused to our environment when these massive and wretched wind turbines are built.

The thousands of tonnes of concrete necessary for each separate base obviously cause great damage and destroys important habitats.

Often the developers quarry areas of the site to provide the aggregate for the interconnecting roads and tracks, trashing the area even more. This obviously lowers their costs.

When up and running, birds are slaughtered by the lengthy rotating blades and the high tension power lines. At the Altamount site USA 4,700 birds have been killed annually in the last 25 years, 1,300 raptors.

According to a new report from the Spanish Bird Society (SEO/ Bird life) a million birds are being killed annually in Spain.

And they call this an ecology friendly new technology ? What does our RSPB have to say about all this and are they opposing turbine applications? Now we are told that turbine developers could offset the impact of their horrendous projects by paying for the improvement of environmental programmes such as wild life habitats . They call this “conservation banking”
